Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is a protein denaturant used in polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis for molecular weight
determination. It is also used in dissociation of nucleic acid-protein complexes in DNA extraction protocols, disrupting cell membranes, and preparation of prehybridization and hybridization solutions.
